I have no idea if the block is based on something else or bespoke for this engine design. I don’t even know what kind of cars use it (drag racers?) but it’s really popular on race and cigarette boats and airplanes, particularly the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! which allows this 3/4 P-51 built-it-yourself kit to maintain a lot of the performance and authenticity of the real thing (so it’s the same size as the more popular and affordable !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! kit which uses - get ready for this - an LS or other 350 c.i. compatible GM V8 - except pushed deep into the six figure price territory - and keep in mind this is still a build-it-yourself plane).

They also have a racing I6 block which based on the description seems to be built of a, of all things, GM Atlas 4.2 block (people keep telling me this is a really tall block for what it is so it’s hard to fit it under the hood of anything not a body-on-frame SUV or truck).

And a limited run of rebuilt NASCAR-spec engines (the site says from the 2002 season so I’m assuming these have been long sold out).

Speaking of the site, !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

Oh, there’s also the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! which is also more affordable and if you really want to you can have it powered by either a relatively small-ish engine made especially for kit aircraft or a Honda V6. Or, yes, you can do a factory LS swap, because of course.

IIRC the V12 is, of course, LS based.

The even exhaust port spacing, deck height, timing design, and water pump suggest to me it’s loosely based on a big-block Chevy. Probably bespoke crank, cam, and block (billet like the aluminum Cobra 427s), with the rest off the shelf.

Per the FAQ ( http://falconerengines.com/faq.php?faq=fa… ) it’s SBC-based.

Gotcha. Timing cover is a better match, and the port spacing is probably down to having no reason to stick to the basis.

too many camshafts for that to be a NASCAR engine; it’s an IndyCar engine.
